Ultra-portable Windows 10 PC GPD Pocket goes on sale

GPD has been the brand that has introduced hand-held Windows 10 mobile PCs in portable and completely functional form, which are can fit inside a pocket. Now, the company has introduced a newer version that is a lot more ergonomic and sleeker than its previous iteration, which looked like a bulky Nintendo 3DS. The newer GPD Pocket, is now sleeker, looking like a netbook but still comes in the size of phablet.

The device was conceived to make Windows-based computing compact and also affordable. The new GPD Pocket features a 7-inch 1080p display and while the regular desktop running apps will be difficult to navigate through on such a small handheld, Windows Apps, on the other hand, will scale nicely. GPD has been known to make usually Android-running devices, but after the success and the feedback of its last attempt at making an ultra-portable laptop, the company has improved the specifications of the newer model as well.

We can find similarities of the GPD Pocket to the once famous Sony Vaio ultra-portable laptops which did not do very well, owing to their price tag, but the GPD Pocket foregoes that and offers great specifications at a good price for a full-fledged PC. Inside, the device features the powerful Intel Atom x7-X8750 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of EMMC storage. 8GB of RAM is also what powers the base versions of most high-end laptops as well, which shows that GPD is not simply looking to emulate the PC experience but is also looking to offer performance at an appealing package.

Ports options will definitely put the MacBook Pro to shame, offering a USB-C Port, a mini HDMI port, a 3.5mm port and a USB 3.0 port, which, considering the size of the device is plenty. What makes the power-hungry device run, is a 7,000mAh battery that offers up to five hours of video playback. There is also fast Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 on-board, along with a built-in mic for Skype chatting and other functions.

The device is available on purchase form Italy for the price of a smartphone, at 437 Euros. The device was much-loved during its Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign that it had raised over $3,000,000. What’s more, for those who are not into the Windows space, there is also an offering for a Ubuntu Linux configuration as well.
