The sequel to Huawei’s mid-range Nova was launched today in China in the form of Nova 2. After weeks of speculations, the device now finally reaches the market with pre-orders already live.
Besides Nova 2, Huawei also introduced the Nova 2 Plus. Both the devices feature metal unibody design, with the difference only being in the screen size, storage and battery. In Nova 2, you have a 5-inch LPTS LCD screen, while on Nova 2 Plus, it is bigger at 5.5-inch with 2.5D curved glass on top.
While sporting a metal body itself is a great plus, that is not the USP of Huawei’s new launches. It is in the optics front, they both score. The devices have a dual camera set up on the rear with 12MP + 8MP sensor, the latter supporting optical zoom and portrait mode, while the 12MP one offers phase detection autofocus and f/1.8 aperture lens. For selfies, there is a massive 20MP snapper as well.
On the hardware front, Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus is powered by a Kirin 659 octa-core processor with Mali-T830 MP2 GPU and 4GB RAM. The storage however vary on both the devices. On Nova 2, you have 64GB storage, while on Nova 2 Plus, it is of 128GB. Both support microSD expansion.
Besides storage, the battery setups also are different on Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. In the former, you have a 2,950 mAh battery, while on Nova 2 Plus, it is bumped up to 3,340 mAh. The devices run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
Pre-orders for the device start today in China. The Nova 2 is priced at CNY 2,499 ($364) and the Nova 2 Plus at CNY 2,899 ($423). The devices come in Aurora Blue, Grass Green, Gold, Rose Gold and Obsidian Black color variants.
