FujiFilm’s Instax Square SQ20 Combines Modern Technology With A Retro Feel

Last week at Photokina 2018, Fujifilm launched the Instax Square SQ20. The camera is their newest addition to the Instax line and successor to the SQ10.  Much like its predecessor, the SQ20 is a hybrid camera which combines on the spot Polaroid printing with the control and editing capabilities of a digital camera. You will continue to use the same square film format but also enjoy new enhanced features never before seen in the Instax line of Instant cameras.

Same Great Design & Capabilities

The Instax SQ20 comes in two colors (beige, matte black) and inherits a lot of the same characteristics as its predecessor. The SQ20 will sport an identical retro design and 2.7 inch TFT color LCD monitor. The internal storage will also remain the same, holding up to 50 photos at once.  However, a memory card can be added to store thousands of pictures if you choose to.  Another returning feature is the placement of shutter buttons on both sides of the camera.  This allows you to conveniently shoot with your right or left hand.

All New Video Recording

The SQ20 will be the first device in the Instax line to shoot videos.  The new feature called “motion mode” allows you to capture short 15-second video sequences.  You can then scroll through the video frame by frame and grab the image that you feel is best or choose multiple frames and print them all out. A 35mm film strip border can also be applied to photos shot in motion mode.

New Zooming Feature

The Fujifilm SQ20 is also the first and only Instax camera to provide zooming capabilities. The 4x digital zoom adds a bit of versatility for those moments you can’t get any closer to your subject.

Additional Features

The following additions are new features that add a splash of creativity to this model.

Timeshift Collage: With one press of the shutter, shoot four sequential images that can be printed out on a single sheet. This feature also allows you the ability to adjust the time lag between shots from .02 seconds to 2 seconds in length.

Special Sequence Filter: This filter allows you to take dynamic and dreamy shots that create a sense of action.

Mirror On Front Of Camara: A mirror is included next to the lens to ensure the perfect selfie every time.

Release Date & Price

Fujifilm is scheduled to release the Instax Square SQ20 on October 20th and it is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. The unit will retail for $199.
