Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie and Selfie Pro boast powerful selfie cameras, but weak internals

The next ZenFone smartphones in line of receiving a launch are the ZenFone 4 Selfie and the Selfie Pro. As the names suggest, one of them will be a standard variant while the other might offer a little more. Both phones are directly being marketed for the social media age, and are being promoted for their selfie-taking cameras.

The most important aspect of the two smartphones are the dual cameras on the front and the rear sides. The difference between the two camera modules is that while the Selfie comes with a 20MP + 8MP setup, the Selfie Pro comes with a 24MP + 5MP setup. That being said, the secondary lens will be suitable for the wide-angle shots that are 120-degrees wide, while the larger sensor will be better suited for selfies. Both phones feature front-facing flash as well. Every other aspect of the two phones, in terms of hardware are standard affairs, making these two phones fall under the entry-level bracket.

Also, the two phones will be identical in terms of build and placement of buttons and fingerprint sensors. The difference internally, starts with the processor, where the Selfie features a Snapdragon 430 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. It will also feature a 3,000mAh battery and three card slots as well, making it a very convenient phone for power users who like to maximise their phone’s usage. The phone’s display is a 5.5-inch IPS display that will come with a resolution of 720p and while the front side features a formidable dual-camera setup, the rear will allegedly feature a sole 16MP camera. The phone will also share capacitive buttons, Bluetooth 4.1 and N-WLAN with its slightly bigger sibling and will cost 300 euros when it is out.

ZenFone Selfie Pro will come with a 1080p AMOLED display at 5.5-inches along with the same 3,000mAh battery as its smaller variant. In terms of power, the phone will run on the Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset clocked at 2GHz and paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone also comes with expandable storage on top of the already existing 64GB internal storage. The phone’s rear will also house a 16MP shooter. Every other aspect of the phone is the same as the smaller Selfie. In terms of pricing, the larger variant of the phone will cost 399 Euros when it is launched.

The two new ZenFone 4 phones will have quite a bit of competition to put up with when they release, as Lenovo’s K3 Note, along with Xiaomi’s new Redmi both have considerably competitive advantages in terms of pricing and key specifications. Perhaps the dual-selfie cameras may not enough for the company to pull a win with this offering.
