Samsung Galaxy Note 7 FE launched with smaller battery, S8 software

The wait is over. Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition (FE). The device will go on sale starting July 7.

The Note 7 FE features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560p resolution and Snapdragon 821 SoC under the hood.

For the uninitiated, the Galaxy Note 7 FE is more of a comeback version of the Galaxy Note 7 that was a huge failure for Samsung after a number of units caught fire and led to the device’s global recall.

More than 3 million of Samsung’s flagship phablet was recalled last year. The South Korean electronics giant later announced that it would recycle the Note 7 phones in an eco-friendly manner. The new Note 7 Fan Edition is just that, bearing the same hardware, but without the original 3,500 mAh battery.

In the Fan Edition you will find a smaller 3,200 mAh battery that has undergone an 8-point battery safety test that Samsung started after the Note 7 fiasco.

Other specs on Note 7 FE includes a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, in addition to a 12MP rear camera sensor and IP68 water and dust resistant certification.

Though the hardware appears the same, on the software front users can cheer over the fact that the device will run on the same OS seen on latest S8 and S8+, which even includes Bixby.

For now, reports state Samsung only plans to sell 400,000 units of the FE in South Korea. If the device will launch in other markets is yet to be known.

The Note 7 FE is priced at 699,600 Won ($611) and will sell in four colors – Black Onyx, Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium.
