Pre-order for Pixel phones open in India: Available in 32GB, 128GB variants

The latest Google phone Pixel is now available for pre-order on India’s largest shopping portal – Flipkart. Both variants of the Pixel will be available on the online shopping store. Seems like just with the case of the Motorola phones, Google has chosen Flipkart to be the first official supplier of their flagship.

The pre-orders were opened on midnight on the e-commerce portal for three different variants of the Pixel offering. A 32GB Pixel which will cost Rs 57,000 ($853), a 128GB Pixel Rs 66,000 ($988) and the 128GB Pixel XL at Rs 76,0000 ($1,138). The Pixel gets two different versions of its model for sale while the Pixel XL will only be available in the 128GB trim, which seems to make the list quite limited for users who want to find a middle ground in terms of how much they can spend.

But Flipkart is also promising their special ‘no-cost EMIs’ which allow users to pay the EMI without having to pay the additional amount. To make it more attractive for buyers, they’ve also offered the first 1000 buyers Electronic Gift Vouchers worth Rs 5,700.

We’re not sure how well the Indian consumers will take to this strategy that Google has employed for the Pixel campaign. With Diwali just around the corner and the nation’s biggest online shopping portals out on full swing promoting the biggest sales for the festive season, it seems like Flipkart will have to put up with some stiff competition in terms of bang for buck.

But Flipkart have also included their exchange offer for users with old phones who want to exchange their phones. So if someone wants exchange their iPhone 6 Plus, they get a discount up to Rs 21,000 ($314). But whether that’s a good sell or not, will be up to the buyer. That will significantly drop the price of the phone. For service, Google have partnered with Redington and HTC to cover maintenance. And until October 25, the order undertaken will be delivered for free, along with the promised gift vouchers.

The Pixel’s highest selling points are the super-fast processor inside, Google Assistant, the self-proclaimed best camera ever, fast charge and well, the promise and performance that comes with every Google device. Google also offers special service exclusive to the Pixel line of phones.

Whatever the offers Flipkart is packing with the launch of the Pixel in India, it could be a hit-or-miss approach. But just like all Nexus phones before it, it won’t be without hype.
