Oppo F3 Plus vs OnePlus 3T: Features and specs comparison

Oppo has just entered the most competitive arena in the smartphone segment – the affordable powerhouse arena. While the company has not had many noteworthy flagships since its inception, this time around, Oppo is looking to change that with the F3 Plus. And it will be directly competing with the likes of the OnePlus 3T which has enjoyed quite a bit of fanfare throughout its current run and its momentum doesn’t seem to stopping any time soon. To make things simpler for buyers, here’s a breakdown of these two phones compared with each other.

Display

The F3 Plus has as a rather larger display at 6 inches, with an FHD resolution, making the pixels a lot more spread out than the OnePlus 3T which has a smaller 5.5-inch display. Talking about display technology, the F3 Plus comes in the IPS LCD variety while the 3T’s is an AMOLED screen which is more vibrant and sharp.

This round hands down, goes to the 3T, because resolution is only as great as its optimum screen size. The F3 Plus nevertheless come with a capable display as well.

Muscle

At the core of things, the F3 Plus by Oppo features a Snapdragon 653 Octa-Core chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with external memory card support for up to 256GB. On the other hand, the OnePlus 3T has the monster Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset with 6GB of RAM with fixed 64/128GB storage. Interestingly, Oppo’s offering does not come with the new standard in connectivity when it comes to the USB port, coming with a mere microUSB port while the OnePlus 3T comes with the Dash charge capable USB Type-C. Even on the software front, Oppo’s offering still is stuck with Marshmallow while the 3T runs smoothly on Nougat.

Again, there isn’t really much to prove here for OnePlus 3T in terms of the advantage, so we’ll let the spec sheet do the talking.

Optics

Both phones feature almost the same optics, being 16MP on the front and the rear of the phones. The F3 Plus however, has a dual-camera set up on the front of the phone for wide angle and profile photos. The F3 Plus also has an f/1.7 aperture on the back while the 3T’s is a f/2.0 aperture. Everything else is near-identical otherwise, with a dual-LED setup being maintained on the F3 Plus as well. While the 3T does provide some great photos, the dual-lens 16MP front cameras can be really convincing in the F3 Plus’s case. This round goes to Oppo.

Verdict

This is a pretty small comparison, considering that there are many features that OnePlus does better at the same cost of the F3 Plus. The 3T completely blows the F3 Plus out of the water with raw power and build quality, as well as reliable software features as well. Oppo has foregone NFC, a USB Type-C connectivity port as well as a beefier chipset, to match a more mid-range profile, which does not hold a candle to the 3T. Surprisingly, the F3 Plus costs just a tad more than the 64GB 3T, making it not the best proposition for value right now.

The OnePlus 3T is miles ahead, while the Oppo F3 Plus is only just starting to taste the competition. For those who have skipped the previous paragraphs just to know what to buy, here’s the TL;DR version: Get the OnePlus 3T.
