After the launch of the Nokia 8, the cards are still on the table for a Nokia 9 launch that will be bigger and better than the 8. HMD did subtly hint at the possibility that it was working on a larger screen than the Nokia 8.
A Russian website had revealed that HMD Global would be making a newer, bigger phone than the Nokia 8 that would be capable of meeting all of its users’ needs. The Nokia 8 will already come with a 5.3-inch screen; hence it could be the case that the Nokia 9 might come with a 5.5-inch or even 6-inch screen when it releases. A concept sketch of the Nokia 9 shows an almost bezel-less screen. In terms of specifications, it could be possible that the phone will feature a Snapdragon 835 SoC that will be paired with either 6GB of 8GB of RAM and will most likely come with 128GB of internal storage. It may also carry forward the dual-camera setup as seen on the Nokia 8.
There was initial confusion over whether the Nokia 9 would eventually be the Nokia 8 or a brand-new device entirely. With the launch of the Nokia 8, all doubts were cleared. With a chiseled bezel and larger screen, the new Nokia 9 may be the more appealing, modern look that the Nokia 8 could not have been. The phone might also feature an iris scanner and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. While the Nokia 8 currently will be retailing for about 600 Euros, the Nokia 9 will probably cost 750 Euros when it sees its launch date.
HMD is not planning on slowing down its progress with the Nokia brand as it continues to churn out more powerful phones during its big comeback. While the current range of Nokia smartphones released are still subdued when compared to the competition, and are also not as widely available. The 9 is also rumored to come with a larger 3,800 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 and a rear fingerprint sensor. Software-wise, the phone will probably come with the latest Android Nougat 7.1.2 build, but depending on when it actually releases, it could possibly come with Android O as well.
Considering that the news is based on speculation and rumors, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. No official confirmation of the device has been announced just yet, but hopes are high for Nokia’s future foray into the smartphone biz.
