Nokia is back in the game. Thanks to its announcement of the Nokia 6, we can now make our own speculations as to how it’ll stack up next to the industry’s finest examples of handsets. Nokia has given everyone major throwback feels with its first Android phone and people are eager to see how well it compares to what we are currently getting in the market.
Here’s our comparison with the iPhone 7 Plus.
Hardware
The most jarring difference between the two phones is their hardware. The Nokia 6 comes with a very modest, Snapdragon 430 processor – an Octa-core 1.1 GHz CPU, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage plus SD card expansion. These figures might sound odd, considering that a phone usually with just this much processing power isn’t given high storage or memory options. But Nokia knows it’s got to stand out somewhere to attract users at the lower price point, while offering the benefits of the flagship.
The iPhone 7 comes with the A10 Fusion chip – a work of marvel by the engineers of Apple as it runs the phone swiftly and way better than the previous generation did. It’s got 3GB of RAM with storage options starting at 32GB up to 256GB but no expandable storage available.
Of course, we can’t tell the difference in performance yet because the Nokia 6 hasn’t released globally yet. But we’re sure it’ll be fare decently compared to others in its class. Definitely not as good as the iPhone for sure. Even current Android flagships struggle to keep up with the iPhone 7.
Camera
The Nokia 6 doesn’t disappoint with the optics. 16MP on the rear and 8MP on the front with flash. By the looks of it, we’ve got a very decently spec’d and capable camera on our hands.
The iPhone 7 Plus comes with one of the best camera modules ever fitted into a phone, with the rear camera at 12MP and the front camera at 7MP. We don’t need to even talk about quality because iPhone has been slaying at the camera game since forever.
Software
The 6 will run Android Nougat, of course with a proprietary skin by Nokia, which has yet to be delved into. We’ll have to wait until launch for that. But the iPhone’s iOS 10 has improved by leaps and bounds, considering it was lagging behind for some time as far as features were concerned, compared with other Android devices. They’re still both starkly different on the software front, but each have their own benefits. We are looking forward to seeing how Nougat works on Nokia. It should make for an interesting match. As far as updates are concerned, we won’t be able to expect timely updates for the 6, as with every Android phone, but such isn’t the case with the iPhone.
Display and Battery
The 6 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display which will be powered thanks to a massive 3000mAh battery. The iPhone has the same screen resolution as the 6 and is powered by a 2900mAh battery. Neither of them have broken records as to the resolution and screen size, but the iPhone’s display technology has a reputation in the industry for being one of the best, despite its modest specs.
Other features
The 6 offers dual SIM, something the iPhone doesn’t, along with FM Radio and a headphone jack too. It’s not exactly a fair comparison by any means as functionality and usage differ greatly on both phones, owing to their eco-system. The Nokia 6 will definitely be cheaper than the iPhone 7 Plus for sure, however how the phone itself performs compared to an already tested and proven flagship is yet to be seen.
