Nintendo’s next console Nintendo Switch will be hitting store shelves by 2017. While speculations continue on the features, the latest is that it will come with a 4GB RAM.
Nintendo Switch features will be officially confirmed on January 12
Journalist Emily Roger revealed that the Switch will come with 4GB of RAM, double that of the Wii U. “Alright. I have some good news. I can confirm that Switch has 4GB of RAM in RETAIL units. Not just the dev kits. Double the Wii U’s ram,” Emily tweeted on Sunday.
Part home console and part handheld, Nintendo Switch could feature detachable Joy-Con controllers and a 6.2-inch, 720p, capacitive multi-touch display. The touchscreen is not new to Nintendo devices. The previous 3DS and Wii U seamlessly incorporates the touch features. As for Switch, it is rumored to have a 10-point multitouch screen.
Nintendo’s president, Tatsumi Kimishima, recently announced that the Nintendo Switch price and release would be confirmed on January 12.
In a Bloomberg interview, Kimishima also clarified that the launch of Switch will not halt production of 3DS. The launch of the Switch, though it could have some impact on 3DS sales, won’t kill the 3DS, Kimishima said.
Nintendo reported this week that it sold 2.7 million 3DS units during the last quarter.
The 3DS hardware is still growing, he said. “So that business still has momentum. And certainly rather than being cannibalized by the Switch, we think the 3DS can continue in its own form,” Kimishima was quoted saying.
Speculation is putting the price of the new console between $300 and $350.
