Nikon’s anniversary edition D5 and D500 will be available after July

Nikon is celebrating 100 years of being in the market in a unique way, as it announced on Monday that the company will be commemorating this occasion by making anniversary editions of its cameras, lenses and binoculars.

Two DSLRs, namely the Nikon D5 flagship that is usually used for all-purpose heavy-duty photography from capturing sports to wildlife and even space exploration, will receive the anniversary edition trim. It will come in a dark grey metallic finish along with a stamp on the bottom. The second DSLR to receive the treatment is the D500 DX-format flagship which will include a metal case with an engraving of the commemoration logo as well as the serial number.

Nikon is giving its beautiful-looking flagship lenses a bit of love as well, namely, the Nikon 70-200E telephoto zoom that comes with an additional few glass elements which will make up the lens’ internal functioning. The triple F2.8 zoom will also come with a set of three f/2.8 maximum aperture zoom lenses engraved with the commemorative logos and the serial numbers. On the binoculars front, the company is also doling out the WX 7.50 IF and WX 10×50 IF wide-view binoculars as well as the 8×30 E II conventional binoculars that will all feature the commemorative sign and the serial number. This gear will definitely be a collector’s item for the budding and accomplished photographers out there.

As for the non-functioning commemorative pieces, Nikon has released a replica of the Nikon Model 1 in a Swarovski crystal creation. There is also a ½ scale model of the Nikon F. As reported by Pixel Perfect, the company is also offering accessories such as leather straps for cameras as well as pin collections and even a special deconstructed lens plaque. Those who can’t wait to get their hands on this merchandise will have to wait a little longer however, since Nikon will be making all of these products available only in July which will around the date of the real 100th Anniversary celebration. The pricing for these pieces has not been announced as well, but we can understand that they won’t come cheap.

Until the time comes however, interested fans can gawk at the merchandise on the online anniversary page of the company and keep updated on when more details become available.
