While nowadays, it is seen as an overkill to add more GBs to RAM and more pixels to screens, Alcatel has recently upped the ante by including not just two, but four cameras on their latest phone – the Alcatel Flash.
Alcatel Flash sports a dual-camera setup at the back as well as the front
Alcatel’s Flash smartphone has two dual-camera systems. One on the front and one on the rear of the phone. The rear sensors are a pair of 13MP snappers – one for colour shots and the other adding monochrome effects. The dual front facing cameras are a combination of an 8MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. Perhaps for portrait selfies and for wider angled shots as well. As for the normal specifications of the smartphone, it comes with a 5.5-inch screen that is an FHD display.
Powering the Flash smartphone is a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 CPU coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The battery is 3,100mAh battery. The phone also features a USB Type-C port as standard, a fingerprint sensor for security that is located at the back of the phone as well as dual-SIM support. The rear cameras are able to capture 4K video at 30 fps, have dual tone flash for different lighting as well as the capability to export to the RAW media format.
Unfortunately, the phone has not caught up with times this year and will only come with Android Marshmallow. Considering Alcatel’s reputation of not regular updating their phones, we may or may not see a Nougat update in the future. It’s difficult to say. It seems like Alcatel are betting it big on their four cameras, even highlighting that the images captured will be processed by the image processing software to make an enhanced image adding depth of field. There will be tons of options related to manual focus and auto-focus in the settings of the camera app.
Seeing as more companies nowadays are resorting to dual-camera setups, it appears natural that the trend will likely continue in the coming months. We’ve seen them so far on the Honor V9, the G6, the iPhone 7 Plus and many more. Will the Alcatel be able to match that performance though? No, because it is aimed at a completely different market that is more budget-oriented, considering the choice of specs that the smartphone-maker has chosen. Although pricing and availability is not available for the product yet, we can expect it to fall under the mid-range segment.
