Moto Z owners had something to cheer about from Motorola’s presentation at the ongoing MWC 2017. Motorola announced new Moto Mods, including a power pack and wireless charging mod.
To start with, you have the Moto Power Pack that adds “50% more battery” for your phone and will retail for $49. Then you have the Turbo Power Moto Mod, a mod for wirelessly charging your device on a charging pad. Motorola says users will get 8 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging.
For gamers, Motorola has introduced a Gamepad Moto Mod that comes with features found in portable consoles. According to Android Authority, the game mod will have console-like like buttons, triggers and a D-pad. It will also reportedly come with its own speakers.
Moto Z devices will soon come with support for using Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant. Motorola announced a new mod with Amazon Alexa support that will allow users to handle tasks with voice commands. Later this year Motorola will be bringing Alexa into its smartphones, with that an additional mod accessory will not be a necessity.
During the press event, Motorola showed off some of its other concept designs for Moto Mods that could be announced any time of the year. It includes a VR headset, a photo printer and a mod to add multiple SIM cards.
The real show-stealer however was not the Moto Mods, but the latest mid-range smartphones Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus that was anticipated for a long time.
For the uninitiated, the Moto G5 has a 5-inch screen with FullHD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. It is powered by a Snapdragon 430 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB storage options.
For pictures, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and dual autofocus pixels, 4K video recording, and dual-LED flash. There is also a 5MP front camera for selfies. Power will be drawn from a 2,800 mAh battery.
Meanwhile, on the Moto G5 Plus you have a 5.2-inch FullHD screen, 2GB/3GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage options.
