Lenovo’s showing at the MWC this week has us seeing their newest entrants in the tablet segment – mainly the Tab 4, which come in two variants – the Tab 4 8 and the Tab 4 10. Each of these variants will come with their own premium “Plus” versions as well, for extra power and mobility. Each pair shares the same specifications, with the only difference being in the screen size. Here is the breakdown.

The 8-inch and 10-inch standard variants of the Tab 4 will come in 1200×800 pixel screen resolutions and feature a modest Snapdragon 425 (not the most powerful, but it will be enough for the most basic tasks). RAM is capped at 2GB and storage options consist of either a 16GB or 32GB in-built capacity. On the optics front, the rear camera is a 5MP shooter, while the selfie camera is a 2MP snapper. For the budget-oriented consumer, this tablet should be enough. Both sizes also look sleek and will be a good fit for any consumer’s hands.

Tab 4 8 Plus and Tab 4 10 Plus
The Plus variants will come with a Full HD screen at 1920×1080 resolution IPS display, and will be powered by a more capable Snapdragon 625 SoC. Users will get the option of either 3GB/4GB of RAM along with internal storage capacities of 16GB/32GB. There is a 5MP camera on the front side of the phone and an 8MP sensor on the rear. This premium variant comes with extra security in the form of a fingerprint sensor and also a USB Type-C port. Putting the premium aspect into perspective, Lenovo has made this variant of the Tab 4 come with a dual-glass design.

What is common between the standard and the premium versions is that both come with good audio, courtesy of speakers with Dolby Atmos. They also run on Android Nougat and will be available in WiFi+LTE as well as WiFi only models. Lenovo is keeping the pricing of these devices quite competitive with the standard variants costing at $109 and $149 for the 8-inch and 10-inch standard models, and Plus variants will cost $199 and $249 for the 8-inch and 10-inch models respectively. All of the variants will be launched sometime around May.The 4-inch variants will be powered by a 4850 mAh battery, while the larger 10-inch variants will be powered by a bigger, 7000mAh battery.
There are also special kits available for kids and also for office use. The kid’s kit will come with special 3M stickers for protecting the back as well as a special blue-light filter to protect the eyes. It will also have exclusive kid-friendly content as well as a kid-friendly browser.
The business oriented kit – known as the productivity pack will allow users to connect to a keyboard and trackpad through Bluetooth. Those who opt for this particular variant will receive other features like fast app switching, multi-window support and also have a taskbar. As for when these packs will be available, Lenovo has yet to answer.
The company is making a good statement by announcing such tablets, that quality can be affordable. With packages that include decent software and audio quality, the main crux as being used as a media and lifestyle device will be more than enough for consumers to appreciate, especially at such a tempting price.
