Microsoft has unveiled the new Surface Pro tablet-laptop hybrid at an event held in Shanghai on Tuesday. The fifth generation Surface tablet was simply called the Surface Pro than the purported Surface Pro 5.
During the launch, Microsoft announced that its new Surface Pro is 20% faster than its predecessor and even offers longer battery life. On a single charge, users enjoy up to 13.5 hours of battery life. The 2-in-1 will sell in three processor variants – Core i7, Core i5 and Core m3.
Coming just days after the launch of Surface Laptop, the new release comes with a number of improvements which Microsoft hopes will boost its sales. Weighing about 1.7 pounds, the Surface Pro packs a 12.3-inch display with PixelSense technology and 3:2 aspect ratio. It further ships with a new Surface Pen and Alcantara keyboards. The Pen, however, will have to be purchased separately. It will cost an additional $99 for those interested.
The laptop-tablet hybrid does not have a USB-C connector. You will find the same Surface connector and mini DisplayPort found on the Surface Pro 4. Furthermore, you will find a new hinge design and support for Surface Dial on the display.
According to The Verge, there will be an LTE version coming soon. The LTE variant will “support micro SIM and eSIM, and will be priced slightly higher than models without LTE support”.
The new Surface Pro will hit stores starting June 15. Pre-order is open and the cost is $799 (excludes Surface Pen and Type Cover).
