Samsung Galaxy S8 Active to be sans curved edge display, will be AT&T exclusive

As is the case with all Samsung flagships, the Active variant of this year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 is currently in the works by Samsung and thanks to a new leak, we now know what the Active Galaxy S8 will look like.

The phone is bound to have the same internal specifications as that of the original (file photo)

An image has been leaked from the Wireless Power Consortium that reveals what the rugged version of the new Galaxy S8 is going to look like and there are quite a few notable differences from the original. For example, there will no more be curved edges on the display. This is perhaps a good decision for making a handset for rough use since the curved edge is more prone to cracking than regular displays. So, instead of keeping the curved edges, Samsung had decided keep the display completely flat, making the front look a lot like the LG G6.

Another notable difference this time around also, is that unlike previously released Active versions, this variant will not consist of buttons on the front of the phone. Users will have to interact with the glass whether the device is wet or dirty, making usage a bit cumbersome. GSM Arena has noted that the button placement otherwise will be retained from the original, including that Bixby button everyone seems to hate. The listing of the device will come under the model number SM-G892A. And since the phone was featured on the Wireless Power Consortium, we can safely confirm that the phone will come with wireless charging.

The phone is further bound to have the same internal specifications as that of the original, including the Snapdragon 835, the 2,960mAh battery, 4GB RAM, 12MP camera on the rear and 8MP on the front, with the display retaining the same resolution as the original at QHD. The Active will bring in a few other goodies as well, such as a beefier body with more reinforced material especially at the rounded edges of the phone in order to prevent bumps and scratches. The phone will probably also carry forward the shatter-proof glass that the Galaxy S7 Active featured.

The mobile itself is codenamed Cruiser inside Samsung and will be an AT&T exclusive when it is launched in the coming months. There has not been official confirmation yet regarding the release or the availability, but it is only a matter of time.
