Microsoft Surface Pro: Here are top 5 takeaways

Microsoft’s new Surface Pro laptop this year does not carry a number suffixing its model name. This time, Microsoft has simply gone ahead and just call it the Surface Pro. There are quite a few new improvements and additions made to this version of the ultra-compact and Microsoft has made sure to add the most powerful Intel chipset for a portable along with various other new features. Here are five the biggest highlights of the new Surface Pro by Microsoft.

The Display
The Surface Pro now has a 12.3-inch display with a resolution of 2736×1824. It is a PixelSense Display with 267ppi along with 3:2 aspect ratio. This time around, Microsoft have also allowed for the color profiles of the display to be switched, just as was seen with the Surface Studio. In more ways than one, the Surface Pro is in essence, a more compact Surface Studio.

It’s got an improved hinge
The Surface Pro’s new hinge now allows for a sturdier support for the screen. The convertible’s hinge is now less flimsy and can simply be pushed back for different modes, that will allow the user to keep it up-right or tilted way down to produce a studio mode, as seen in the Surface Studio, to allow for users to draw upon it.

Powerful specifications
Microsoft now offers the Surface Pro in variants that offer the Kaby Lake processors of Intel, right from the Core m3, to the Core i5 and then the powerful Core i7. Uniquely, the Core m3 and the Core i5 are both fan-less systems. The base version features a Core m3 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage along with Intel HD Graphics 615. The Core i5 version comes with the same memory and storage with an option for 8GB and 256GB configurations with Intel HD 640 graphics. The i7 also shares the same base-spec memory and storage, with an additional two options, 16GB and 512GB as well as 16GB and 1TB configurations. The i7 range will feature Intel’s Iris Plus Graphics 640.

Accessories galore
It is common for a device like this to come with numerous different accessories and Microsoft has done quite a job with their functionalities as well. There is a brand-new Surface Pen time around, with 4096 pressure points with reduced latency compared to the original. It will be sold separately and will cost $99. This time around, the Surface Pro will also be compatible with the new Signature Type Covers, which have a special scissor mechanism and have a 1.3mm key travel distance and wrapped in the Alcantara fabric which was seen on the Surface Laptop earlier. The Signature Type Cover will be available in Platinum, Burgundy and Cobalt Blue and will cost $129. What’s more, is that the Surface Dial will also be compatible with the Surface Pro and will cost the same as the Surface Pen.

Increased battery life
It is not only the internal performance of the CPU that has been improved, but the battery as well, now offering up to 50-percent more battery life than the previous iteration of the Surface Pro. This means that the device will be capable of up to 13.5 hours of battery life.
