Images of Samsung’s alleged SM W2018 flip phone leaks online

Press renders of an upcoming Samsung flip phone has leaked online revealing the design from various angles. The device, bearing model number SM-G9298, will reportedly launch alongside the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23.

The SM-G9298 will not be a basic flip phone, but will come equipped with high end features. A successor to last year’s SM W2017, the device will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor alongside a 6GB RAM.

Images of the SM-G9298 show a clamshell design, similar to its predecessor. The power button is seen on the right, there is a camera sensor on the rear with a fingerprint sensor below it.

The device has already received the TENAA and FCC certification. According to the TENAA listing, the SM-G9298 (also referred as SM W2018) will sport a 4.2-inch full HD display with 1920x1080p resolution. It will also feature a 12MP rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a 5MP shooter at the front.

The device measures 122×60.2×15.5 mm and weighs around 155 gms. In terms of storage, expect a 64GB built-in storage capacity. Connectivity options include 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi.

Power will be drawn by a 2,300 mAh battery. The device will come pre-installed with older Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system.

According to a GSMArena report, the device will support Samsung Pay and wireless charging. As for release date, there are speculations over an August launch. China would be the first to receive the device. Soon we will know if Samsung plans to unveil the flip phone in other parts of Asia and Europe.
