Gionee has been rigorously attempting to keep their selfie game strong, with the release of multiple smartphones this year that all focus on creating better selfies. This time around, the company has launched another selfie-oriented camera smartphone called the A1 lite.

The smartphone went official in Nepal and has been priced Nepalese Rupee 26,999 ($261) and will be available in the Himalayan kingdom from June 18. It is said to be available in three color options – Red, black and gold. Some of the features of the device include a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a 720p resolution. The smartphone will feature the MediaTek MT6753 processor which will be clocked at 1.3GHz. Graphics will be handled by the Mali-T720 GPU. At best, the phone should have entry-level performance. The phone will also come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which can be further upgraded to 128GB via a microSD card, but only at the cost of a SIM since it uses the hybrid dual SIM slot.
Onto the cameras, which is being marketed as the phone’s major USP, the rear camera is a 13MP shooter with LED flash and on the front, is the bigger 20MP shooter that also is accompanied by an LED flash. The quality of the images from the phone is yet to be seen, but the spec-sheet alone indicates that it is good enough for sharing on social media. The phone, however, will ship with Android Nougat and with the Amigo OS skin. The phone will also come with a fingerprint scanner on the back for extra security. Perhaps the next big USP of the phone would be the battery backup. The phone features a 4,000mAh battery which can provide up to 295 hours of standby time. The phone can be pre-booked from June 18 exclusive to Nepal and whether the phone will see foreign shores or whether it will even come to the neighbouring India is yet to be seen.
Further, the phone comes with all the regular bells and whistles such 4G connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, a micro-USB port, WiFi and also a headphone jack. The A1 lite is the decaf version of the Gionee A1, which itself featured an FHD display and 4GB of RAM. Considering that the A1 lite is strong in the budget segment, making the phone exclusive to Nepal could make the demand for the phone strong. Gionee has not been in the business of making any extremely impressive flagship level phones, but the company seems like it is comfortable making phones for the entry-level.
