Dell pleasantly surprised everyone during their showcase at the BETT 2017 in London this week with some new laptops and monitors for educational use. Among the offerings are three Windows 10 laptops, three Chromebooks and two monitors for interactions between students and teachers.
New Dell PCs unveiled to specifically enhance the learning process
Dell Latitude 11 Education Series 2-in-1 Convertible
Dell is making these laptops purely tailored for students to use in the classroom and for assignments. These laptops will come in two trims – one with Windows 10 and one with Chrome OS. But physically, both variants will include the same features. They’ll come with 11.6-inch touch screens, rubberized LCDs and on the base as well, completely sealed keyboards to prevent any spillages, as well as the capability of being completely convertible. The hinge allows for the screen to be rotated 360-degrees, and the Windows variant can also support a tent mode as well as a tablet mode. It also comes with Dell’s own Active Pen peripheral. They also come with a rear camera on the back.
On the inside is a very different story. The Windows 10 variants will come with 7th generation Intel Celeron and Pentium processors while the Chromebook will come with only the 6th generation Celeron chipset. Both will feature 4GB of RAM, while the Windows variant will come with 128GB of internal storage and the Chromebook will come in 16, 32 and 64GB storage options. Both will be available from February 7, while the Windows model pricing will start at $579 and the Chrome OS variant will be starting at $349.
Dell Latitude 11 Education Series
This series is a more standard version, compared to the above. There’s no convertible option here. The screen can only tilt back up to 180 degrees for easier interaction with students for independent and group projects.
Internally, like the ones above, the Windows 10 variants will come with 7th generation Intel chipsets while the Chromebooks will come with the 6th generation chipsets. The storage options are a little different here. The Win 10 variants will come with 32, 64 and 128GB options while the Chromebooks will come in 16 and 32GB options only. They’ll be available from February 7, with the Windows 10 variants starting at a price of $349 and the Chromebooks starting at a price of $219.
Dell Latitude 13 Education Series
This series of notebooks will feature a 13.3-inch touch screens. They’ll come in variants with either Windows 10, Ubuntu, NeoKylin and Chrome OS. Thanks to the larger size, the notebooks can also sport Ethernet ports and 4G LTE. Apart from the Chrome OS version, the other OS options come with 6th and 7th generation Intel processors. The Chrome OS ones come only with 6th generation only. It also comes with a handy network light as well, allowing for teachers to know when their students are accessing the network.
Storage-wise, the Chrome OS variant will get the 16, 32, 64GB storage space. The others come in 128, 256 and 500GB storage capacities. This series of Notebook also comes in a non-touch version and will be available on February 7, with the Chromebook starting at a price of $299 and the other variants starting at a price of $519.
Dell Interactive Touch Monitor 86”
This is a pretty unique device, since not many companies make such innovations. This is a huge 86-inch IPS display with multi-touch and has impressive wide-angle viewing with amazing colour depth of 1.07 billion. The brightness comes in at 400 nits with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. It comes with 4 HDMI ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.2, 1 VGA port, 4 USB 3.0 ports with one that charges and the regular audio input and outputs. It will allow up to 4 pens to be used simultaneously, and up to 20 finger points. It also comes with two 20 watt speakers. There’s also anti-glare and anti-smudge coatings to keep all those fingerprints from clouding up.
The monitor will be available on March 30 and will be priced under $11,000.
Dell Interactive Touch Monitor 55”
Now like its bigger sibling, the 55-inch model features one less HDMI port, but the same 4K resolution. The brightness goes down to a lower, but still impressive 350 nits. It also comes with two 10 watt speakers. It will also come with the same coatings to make the experience less cumbersome for teachers and students. It will be available from March 30 as well and will be priced below the $5000 mark.
