Google Clips camera: Top 5 features you should know

While Google did more to its Pixel smartphones and laptops line-up, the company also expanded the abilities of its Home line-up extensively, the company introduced a new product to the masses that shows potential, but currently has been referred to as a confused camera with no clear purpose in mind yet. For the right user, this could be the camera that they have been waiting for. We are here to offer five the Google Clips camera’s top features to put clarity into what the camera can offer, and how it can be used.

AI
The camera is extensively knowledgeable about how to capture images with machine learning built-in. It comes with facial recognition on-hand and intermittently records the right parts of one’s life as the day progresses. As the camera is meant to be that of a life-logging gadget, it will automatically take in the movements and the people that enter the camera’s frame and once it has understood the important aspects of its surroundings, the camera will automatically capture spontaneous shots made up of a group of independently recorded moments on the camera.

Custom Chipset
While the AI has been at play while compiling the various clips through the gadget, there is more to it than just having AI on board. The company has used a special processor to offer as the visual processing unit or VPU. This is a dedicated processor that is meant for processing tasks for the AI to improve object and facial recognition. Called the Myriad 2, it is the industry’s firsts always-on vision processor. This means that the Clip does not need to connect to the cloud to process its information, making it more secure as everything happens within the device and nothing leaks outside. This also makes the processing faster and more efficient.

One camera, many uses
The Clips camera by Google can be used for many purposes as well as many environments. There is no singular use for the device as it is small enough to fit into the palm of a hand, can be carried around as a portable camera for recording sceneries, and can also be used as a device for surveillance. When in use, the camera autonomously takes clips and videos that it finds relevant. Whatever clips are recorded are transferred to the Google Clips app on Android or iOS for viewing.

Secure
As mentioned in previous points, everything that is captured by the camera is not stored on the cloud, but is instead stored locally and encrypted. Videos and images from the camera to the phone are transferred via Wi-Fi and nothing is shared on social media unless users choose to do so.

Optics
The camera does not boast extremely high resolution of higher megapixels than other cameras, but offers enough that users may need out of the Clips camera. It comes with a 130-degree wide angle lens, with an aperture of f/2.4. The lens is a 12MP sensor and is capable of 15 frames per second bursts of images. With its in-built storage of 16GB, it is able to store two full days of clips.
