Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with 3D facial recognition, Snapdragon 835 will launch in less than two weeks

A year after the Xiaomi Mi Mix made waves in the smartphone segment with its distinguished looks and bezel-less display, the company will be hoping to make another winner that will succeed the original phone which sparked a trend in the industry. And the release of the Mix 2 will be upon us in less than two weeks.

The company will be releasing the smartphone just a day ahead of Apple’s own iPhone 8 launch, on September 11. Xiaomi is clearly matching up to its schedule as the company released the original Mix last October as well. The Mix has been regarded as one of the best-looking phones of 2016. Just like last year’s model, the Mix 2 will be designed by the world-renowned Philippe Starck. This time, the phone’s bezel-less display will completely dominate the front side, and will make the phone look quite like the Samsung Galaxy S8, but the top bezel does seem to be a lot closer to the edge than the bottom’s.

There have been leaks already released online, showing what the phone will look like, thanks to numerous posts having shown the phone’s features found on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. As far as the various leaks have indicated, the phone will feature a smaller screen form the previous iteration, coming in at 6-inches compared to the former’s 6.4-inch display. It will also come with Android Nougat 7.1.1 with MIUI 9 that will also support 3D facial recognition, which has been found on devices like the Galaxy S8 as well for unlocking the phone. There could be a possibility that the phone could support 3D mapping features, if Xiaomi is adventurous enough to take on the new realm of AR-based capturing like Sony has. The phone will probably miss out on the Oreo hype for now, but we expect a future update to bring the phone on-track with the Pixel phones and the new Xperia XZ1 smartphone from Sony.

As far as specifications go, the phone is said to come with the Snapdragon 835 SoC, with upto 256GB of internal storage and a whopping 4,500mAh battery. For a phone that is going to challenge the best of the best, Xiaomi seems to be bringing their A-game to the fore. We will have to wait another 10 days for the official launch of the phone on September 11 to see if the rumors match up to the final device.
