Red’s latest Epic-W and Weapon cameras have considerably upped the action quotient. The American company has equipped the devices with the Helium 8K S35 sensors that delivers superior image quality.
Red says the cameras combine the DSMC2 form factor and incorporates a groundbreaking 8K resolution in an S35 frame. The new Weapon 8K S35 captures 8K Full Frame motion at 60 frames per second (fps) and ultra-detailed 35.4 megapixel stills.
It also offers data speeds of up to 300MB/s and supports Redcode RAW capture with Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD/HR.
“From the very beginning, we’ve strived to not only develop the best imaging technology on the planet, but also make it available to as many shooters as possible,” says Jarred Land, President of Red Digital Cinema.
“The Weapon remains our premier camera – and now comes with the option to either go with the 8K Helium sensor or 6K Dragon sensor.”
The 8K Weapon sells for $49,500 and is available for shipping from today.
The Epic-W meanwhile captures 8K full frame motion at up to 30fps as well as 35.4 megapixel stills. Priced at $29,500, Red calls the Epic-W a “versatile camera option that delivers ultra-detailed images and studio-level performance”.
“Since we began shipping the Epic in 2010, it has been the workhorse camera of the industry,” said Land. The Epic-W, he said continues that legacy and features current-gen DSMC2 form factor as well as the 8K Helium sensor.
