Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus unlocked go live for pre-orders in the US

There has been widespread acclaim for the new Galaxy S8 and those looking forward to finally own one unlocked, will be happy to know that if they’re in the US, pre-orders are happening right now.

The privilege of having unlocked phones is that they are not bound by the carrier that sells them, and has their rental plans affixed to the device. Instead, users will be able to pack their own SIM and interchange whenever they feel like it. The only down-size to buying unlocked smartphones is the price-tag, since people will be paying for the entire device as opposed to the rental charges that are usually entertained in the US. Users will also enjoy a device without all the proprietary bloatware that carriers are infamously known for placing into the phones.

US retailer Best Buy as well as the official online Samsung store have both variants of the Galaxy S8 available for pre-order. The company did claim that the unlocked version of the phones would be made available by the end of May and they have delivered well on their promise. The prices for the phones will come at $724.99 for the S8 with 64GB and unlocked, while the S8 Plus will come with a price tag of $824.99 with 64GB unlocked. Currently, the only colour option available will be the midnight black.

The phones can also be financed through Samsung for an EMI of $30.21 per month for the S8 and $34.38 per month for the S8 Plus. Considering that this will be made available in the US, the region will receive the Snapdragon 835 processor and not the Exynos one, which will otherwise be made available worldwide. Currently the best phone this year has seen yet, the Galaxy S8 will come with its famous edge-to-edge curved screen, sublime camera performance as well as that inconveniently placed fingerprint sensor.

As TechCrunch reveals, the only unattraction of getting the unlocked variants of the S8 and S8 Plus is that the phones will be available only in one colour. But seeing as this phone is one of the very few that is free of the bonds of carriers, users will have much to celebrate about. There has not been any word on availability on any other providers or platforms just yet, but when the phone does eventually hit shelves internationally and in the US as well, we can expect there to be some shortage in the units soon after the launch.

For those looking to be guardians of the Galaxy and are based in the US, this will be an appealing prospect.
