ZTE’s Quartz is a better offering than most smart watches, at mouth-watering price of just $192

ZTE has made smart watches before, so the company did not shy away from being a little disruptive this time around with their new offering – the ZTE Quartz, that puts Android Assistant in a budget cost of a smart watch. Will this be the OnePlus of smart watches?

ZTE Quartz will be ZTE’s first smart watch

Supporting Android Wear 2.0, the Quartz was built along with partnership from T-Mobile, and supports both 3G as well as GPS functionalities. For those who will remember, the Quartz was released last month sometime and has now finally reached the surface, revealing itself to be quite an impressive piece of hardware. Reports state the wearable will be released on April 14 online, and will be available in stores on April 21 for the ripe price of $192.

To come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, along with 768MB of RAM and 4GB or internal storage space, the watch will also have a built-in speaker as well as a mic. Keeping the watch on, will be a 500mAh battery. The watch will also be water-resistant so users can take it with them for their swim as well. It will have a decently sized screen at 1.4-inches of AMOLED goodness, a 22mm band that is interchangeable, which means lots of customization possibilities for users. Of course, being a budget device, there are bound to be some discrepancies. And they are in the form of a lack of NFC, LTE and a heart rate sensor (which means being tracking exercise activities will be a little difficult). For some, these take-aways might be crucial to buying the watch. For others, this will be a brilliant watch to purchase, just for the core features.

Android Police reports that there is still more that is cut off because of the budget factor – that is: a lack of a rotatable crown, and also, a very proprietary charging port, making it difficult to use with other chargers. Now, these still are not that bad cut-offs, considering the watch looks a lot more premium than it is. At a price point like this, it is very difficult not to recommend the Quartz. It’s a great smart watch, with more than capable features, and does better than the flagships out there in terms of battery, processing and also price.

ZTE’s online stores are going to see some major traffic on April 14.
