ZTE seems to be focussing on the budget-centric market with the launch of its two new phones – the V8 Mini and the V8 Lite. These two devices will act as additions to the V8 Pro, which was first announced for the US market by the company. These two slimmed down versions of the V8 Pro will be available in Asia Pacific and Europe, Russia, Japan and Germany. Here is what both of these phones have on offer.

The company is regarding this particular model to be the best for smartphone photography. It comes with a dual camera set-up, with one 13MP sensor and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing. Users will get rich bokeh effects with a simulated aperture within the range of f/1.0-f/8.0 as well as post-capture refocusing for those who want to change their minds after they’ve taken the photo. On the front is a fixed-focussed 5MP camera for selfies.
The display is a meagre 5-inch 720p screen and the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core chipset. There’s enough RAM for the phone to use for ordinary tasks – 2GB, as well as 16GB of internal storage available that users can expand through a microSD card. It has a capable 2,800mAh battery with a fingerprint sensor at the back. As is usually the case with ZTE, the phone will come with Android Nougat out of the box with ZTE’s own skin atop.

On the optics side, there is an 8MP camera on the rear and a 5MP camera on the front for selfies. Like the Mini, it’s got 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Lite’s camera at the rear is only a single sensor unit and the battery in the device is a 2,500mAh unit. This model also comes with Android Nougat, and will do well to fit with the budget segment.
Overall, the Mini is literally a miniaturized version of the V8 Pro, offering the main ingredient of a dual-sensor camera on the rear in a smaller package. The Lite is a simpler offering, providing users the best Android Software experience at a budget. Catered more towards the younger crowds, these phones are hip-looking and offer all the right features.
ZTE could be ticking all the right boxes for bringing a sound product with all the necessary features intact. The V8 Mini will launch in markets in the Asia Pacific and in Europe, while the V8 Lite will be more geared towards markets in Italy, Spain and Germany.
Just goes to show that not all good phones need to have muscle.
