Xiaomi has launched a new budget smartphone that bears the Redmi brand in India.
Coming about five months after its launch in China, Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 4A with a price tag of Rs 5,999 ($91). It will begin to sell on Amazon starting March 23. Color options include dark grey, gold and rose gold.
The spec sheet reveals a 5-inch HD display of 720×1280 pixel resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset and 2GB of RAM. Storage consists of 16GB, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
For optics, you have a 13MP rear camera with phase detection auto focus and LED flash, and 5MP front shooter for selfies. The dual-SIM smartphone also supports 4G, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Power is drawn by a 3,120 mAh battery.
The only downside would be the operating system which is Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a MIUI skin on top. Also for those expecting a metal unibody design like the Redmi 3S, you will be disappointed to find the 4A with a polycarbonate body.
Two other devices that are part of the Redmi 4 series include the Redmi 4 Prime and Redmi 4X. As for specs, the Redmi 4 Prime boasts a 5-inch FHD 1080p display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage capacity.
The Redmi 4X is packed with a 5-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 435 SoC, 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage. There is also a 13MP rear camera, 5MP selfie camera and 4,100 mAh battery.
