Xiaomi’s new 360-degree panoramic camera that launched under its brand Mijia conveniently fits inside your hand, and even your pocket with a price tag of CNY 1,699 ($246).
Launched in China on Thursday, the camera is a serious contender for both portable and 360-degree models. The feature-loaded camera is even dust and water resistant with an IP67 certification to its name, validating the same. The camera can survive even in the harsh conditions of -10°C or 45°C, making it the most pocket-friendly snowboarding companion that can film your rodeos and poptarts. However, being labeled as a 360-degree panoramic camera, we have strong reasons to believe the MIJIA is quite a jab to the new Samsung Gear 360 VR camera.
The square-faced handheld device, measuring 78 x 67.4 x 24 mm and weighing around 108.3 grams, has a fisheye lens on either side of the camera. The black-clad camera has glossy appearance and banks heavily on its aesthetically pleasing looks. The 23.88MP camera can record videos in a 3.5k resolution which is a great selling point of the camera. Add to this, Sony’s IMX206 sensor that can click some crisp images and video, and you get a killer deal with Mijia. Being a panoramic camera, it can capture images at a resolution of 7K and videos at a resolution of 2304 x 1152 at 60fps using the fisheye lens onboard. Also, the Ambarella A12 DIS image processor ensures a 6-axes electronic image stabilization (EIS) so that you can record videos while you’re cycling, skateboarding or even driving. The 1600 mAh non-removable battery onboard the camera makes it an even sweeter deal for shutterbugs.
Mijia offers WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity options along with Bluetooth while supporting a Micro USB 2.0.The device is compatible with Android 5.0 Lollipop and iOS 8.0, or higher versions of both platforms, and supports various third-party apps for the image and video editing of your choice. The expandable memory option of the device can be used to store images and videos stretching up to 128GB.
