The Xiaomi Mi MIX was the first phone to revolutionize the bezel-less screen concept after Sharp’s Aquos launched back in 2014. While the MIX was a runaway hit, Xiaomi has already prepared its fans for a second coming, with the designer of the device having first launched a video teasing what could be the MIX 2.
There have been rumors already surfacing about the MIX 2’s eventual arrival, with a few leaked images of the device supposedly showing the phone’s rear side, consisting of what looks like dual-cameras, but could be mistaken for a single camera with a fingerprint sensor below it. It can be seen from the images that the phone is made of ceramic material and is shown to feature a USB Type-C port as well. Other rumors suggest that the phone will also feature an under-the-display fingerprint scanner that was originally supposed to come on the Samsung Galaxy S8. Qualcomm has already shown its interest in developing the platform and the tech should be ready in time for the MIX 2’s launch.
The launch of the MIX 2 will be imminent, as the device had received its certification necessary for a release in its home nation, China. What is more interesting is that the latest crop of rumors suggest that the phone will be launched at the same date as the iPhone 8’s launch, which is September 12. If this is proven to be true, we will be able to see the phone that has mastered the art of the bezel-less display with a phone, which will probably have the greatest bezel-less display on the market.
Reports indicate that the phone will come with a 6-inch display that will have an even lesser screen to phone ratio than its predecessor, with a display resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The display will also be layered with 2.5D curved glass for added support. Whether the display will also feature rounded corners and curvature itself, is not yet confirmed. It is however rumored that the phone will be packing 6GB of RAM and will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The internal storage of the phone will come in at 128GB but there will be another variant that will come with 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. This is still unconfirmed news, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. In the meantime, the Essential Phone may be the best option until the eventual release.
