Rumor mills were agog over Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Max 2. Today finally the device was unveiled at an event in Beijing, China. It will start selling from June 1, carrying a price tag of CNY 1,699 ($247).
The Mi Max has been a successful phone for Xiaomi, as the company claims to have sold over 3 million of the devices in the past. On the successor, Xiaomi has smartly incorporated a 5,300 mAh battery, given how the millennials are obsessed with performance and battery life.
Xiaomi claims the battery will last up to two days on a single charge. And when put on charge, just in an hour it can charge up to 68 percent. The device sports a unibody metal design and comes at a size of 6.44-inch with ultra-thin bezels and 2.5D glass on front. Powering the device is a Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU.
Processor is coupled with a 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage (expandable via microSD card slot up to 128GB). Connectivity options include G LTE (with VoLTE), GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and USB Type-C.
Given how optics play a crucial role for stellar phones, Xiaomi has ensured the Mi Max 2 does not fall back. On this device you will find a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with PDAF, dual-tone LED Flash, F2.2 aperture, and 4K video recording. For selfies, there is a 5MP sensor with 85-degree wide-angle lens and F2.0 aperture.
Mi Max 2 runs Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 8 skip atop. As for the battery, the 5,300 mAh setup supports Quick Charge 3.0. While the base model starts at CNY 1,699 ($247), the 128GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,999 ($291).
The Mi Max 2’s launch has come a month after Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 6. It has a 5.15-inch display, Snapdragon 835 chipset and decent 3,350 mAh battery. There is also a dual rear camera setup featuring a 12MP regular camera and 12MP telephoto camera. The 64GB variant will retail at $363.
