The festive season sale in India has worked well for Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi. The company reportedly sold over 500,000 smartphones in 72 hours.
Amazon India, Flipkart and Snapdeal are having having a high stakes battle that began on Oct. 1. The five-day sale will see the e-tailers offering unbelievably low prices on branded products.
Xiaomi has been selling smartphones, among other consumer electronic items, on all the top retail platforms. In a Facebook post, Xiaomi India head Manju Kumar Jain said the company sold half a million smartphones that converted to 2 phones being sold every second. And this feat was achieved in the just the first three days.
According to Jain, Redmi 3S was the best selling product during Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Days’ sale. As for Amazon’s Great India Festival, Redmi Note 3 was the device that sold the most. Amazon also brought huge sales for Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 and Mi Power Bank.
“More than six months of rigorous planning and hard work has helped us set a new benchmark in the industry. Last year we sold more than half a million phones in 30 days during the month of October, and this year we were able to achieve a similar number within 3 days,” Jain added in his post.
Going by the gross merchandise sales numbers, it is India’s startup posterboy Flipkart that is leading the race. The Bengaluru-based company said it recorded its highest-ever single day sales on Monday when it sold products worth Rs 1,400 crore.
It may be recalled that in 2014, Flipkart had sales of about Rs 650 crore during the festive season. In 2016, the figures have almost doubled. India’s biggest retail event comes just ahead of Dussehra and Diwali, the latter being the single-largest celebrated event.
