HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to use Nokia’s brand on mobile phones, has reportedly filed for a new trademark called “N Series”. The listing has sparked rumors that there will be a Nokia N series device in the future line up.

The trademark listing was spotted on the website of the Trademark office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) in China.
A Financial Express report notes that Nokia has been “working on a mid-range smartphone and it will be named after the famous Nokia N95”. To recall, the Nokia N series was introduced in the market in 2005 with the launch of N72, N73 and N93.
However, in 2011, Nokia replaced the N series with the Lumia brand. That was until three years back when the Finnish company made a come back with the Nokia N1 tablet. Incidentally, the first N series ran on Symbian mobile operating system, a great milestone in the development of smartphone technology.
We can’t be sure if Nokia is for real bringing the N series, but the trademark listing gives an inkling of what’s to come. In fact a Gizmochina report even suggests Nokia is prepping an N95 that it will launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
It even alleges there will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 series chip. As for the operating system, you need no further evidence. Nokia has decidedly embraced Google’s Android ecosystem. The Nokia 6 is HMD’s first Android-powered Nokia phone. Let’s hope the rumored N series can revive Nokia’s glory days.
