The days of using cables and long wires are coming to an end for smartphone users. With wireless charging becoming more popular than the traditional method, newer techniques have been adopted to charge phones without needing a contact point. With Wi-Charge, the ultimate wireless charging tech will soon be accessible to the public as soon as next year.
Wi-Charge is a new standard in wireless charging that is based on a long-range charging system that can send power to users’ devices anywhere in the room without any need for placement on a charging mat or a charging cord. According to a report from Digital Trends, while the idea was originally just a concept at first, it has already now received official approval from the FDA. This means that the technology will be safe for use in public areas. The implementation of Wi-Charge is ideal for environments such as in cafes, airports, restaurants, malls and so on. Wi-Charge is only one of the many companies that have tackled the wireless charging tech development and none of their competitors have managed to get the approval ratings that Wi-Charge has accomplished in getting.
There are numerous regulations and pre-requisites that need to be met with in order to pass the FDA’s approval. Since Wi-Charge’s technology works differently than its competitors in the market. The technology works using infrared sensors and not radio-waves like the competition. This way, it is easier for Wi-Charge to have their tech approved easily. The project has been under development for years and over time, the technology has also improved significantly to accommodate for longer range at reduced costs. The range can be reached up to 10 metres indoors and provides up to three to four watts of power per device. The charging is not as fast as a cable is, but still happens in the background, making the charging experience unnoticeable yet effective.
In the initial phases of the technology, there will be a need for using dongles and cases in order to take advantage of Wi-Charge’s capabilities. But in the future, there will be special fixtures made in order to automatically charge the devices without the need for additional accessories. There will also be Wi-Charge receivers that can be fitted inside devices to absorb those charging signals, that could possibly be embedded in the next generation of mobile processors. The company behind the innovation is already in talks with manufacturers regarding implementation and will see the tech in action within the first six months of 2018.
Unfortunately, there has not been any confirmation on whether the technology will be available for homes just yet, but the possibilities of going out and never running out of battery is prospect that will appeal to many.
