Smartphone makers are known to create a buzz on their displays, hardware and features as they release a new handset. Now, here is one that is unique. Japanese firm Kyocera’s new smartphone is marketed as a washable device.
The smartphone, dubbed as the ‘Rafre’, is exclusive in Japan and can be washed with soap and water. This is more than what you can ask for in terms of a splash and water resistant device.

A successor of the Digno Rafre that was launched back in December 2015, the new upgrade Kyocera says possesses resistance against both foaming hand soap and body soap. Further, it also features resistance to hot water and has a touchscreen that responds even when your hands are wet or with gloves on.
That is not all, you have a cooking app that accompanies the device and can be operated with hand gestures. With just simple hand movements, you can set times, answer call or even scroll through recipes. Now this is what we call an avant-garde device!
For those interested in what the hardware looks like, the Rafre has a 5.0-inch HD TFT LCD screen, a 2GB Ram and 16GB ROM (expandable up to 200GB via external memory). The device is compatible with 4G LTE and WiMAX2+.
Display and other specs
The Rafre runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and is backed by a decent 3,000 mAh battery. Weighing 158 grams, the device sports a 13MP camera that supports Phase Detection AF, Auto HDR and even enables users to take clear photos in low-light conditions.
The handset features a Blue Light Cut app to reduce eye strain. To launch in three color versions – pink, white and blue, the product will launch in March 2017. For now it is exclusive to the Japanese market.
There is no word on whether the device will be rolling out for everyone. We’ll be sure to keep our eyes peeled anyway.
