“We believe Viveport is the place where customers will start their journey into new virtual reality experiences,” said Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport. “Now, fans in over 30 countries will join us on a fantastic voyage, as they get to experience amazing VR Apps published by the best content creators in the industry.”

To promote new and updated content from top VR creators, Vive has introduced the Viveport Premieres on the frontpage. Currently it features content from Everest VR, Google Spotlight Stories’ Pearl, Lifeliqe, Stonehenge VR, The Music Room and an all-new edition of theBlu.

“With Viveport, Lifeliqe is able to spark lightbulb moments in the eyes of students learning science,” said Ondrej Homola, CEO of Lifeliqe. “Now anyone can walk alongside dinosaurs and explore the human body among the many experiences in our virtual museum.”

As part of its launch, Vive is allowing users to access titles in the VR library for as low as $1.

Vive is a first-of-its-kind virtual reality platform developed by HTC and game developer Valve in 2015. The plan for an app store was conceived much later, with stiff competition from established players such as Sony and Microsoft.

Viveport was first announced during the VRLA Summer Expo held in August, this year. “Our mission is to unleash human imagination from the limitations of reality, and Viveport will be an important cornerstone in democratizing access to the world’s most diverse selection of immersive experiences,” HTC CEO Cher Wang had said during the briefing.

Not just users, the platform will also benefit content creators and developers who can explore sustainable revenue streams through pay-to-download, in-app-purchases and subscriptions.

The Viveport store will be available in Vive headsets, web browsers, and as a PC.
