Twitter’s livestreaming service Periscope can now broadcast 360-degree live videos. The announcement was made in a blog post on Wednesday.
Though it will load like regular live broadcasts, viewers will be able to tilt and rotate their phone to see a full panorama shot. “Starting today, you can check out live, interactive 360 videos from interesting broadcasters and explore what’s happening with them,” said Alessandro Sabatelli, Director AR and VR, Twitter.
“You’ll be able to get an inside look with well-known personalities and go behind the scenes at exclusive events,” she added.
On those videos marked with a Live 360 badge, you can interact with it to change what you see by moving your phone or swiping the screen. Broadcasting 360-degree video live will be limited to Twitter’s “select partners” at launch.
The launch comes on the heels of the 360-degree broadcasts on Facebook Live. Simply called Facebook Live 360, the feature was integrated into live streaming in an update on December 13. YouTube also had launched 4K 360-degree live streaming earlier this month.
