TAG Heuer’s CEO Jean-Claude Biver on Tuesday unveiled the company’s second luxury smartwatch, the Connected Modular 45, with a hefty price tag of $1,650-and-up.
Despite the estimated jaw-dropping price of TAG Heuer’s Connected Modular 45 timepiece, the 157-year-old watchmaker has a cautious forecast that its sales will rise to 8 percent to 10 percent following the release of the new wearable this year.
For those who wonder what makes this piece ‘The Smartwatch’, we have listed three compelling reasons why one should still shed out money for this device over other popular brands.
Everything is Interchangeable
The highlight of Connected Modular 45 is that the 1.39-inch AMOLED screen and 45mm smartwatch module can be swapped out with TAG’s chronograph or with a Swiss-made mechanical option which transforms the smartwatch into an ordinary luxury timepiece.
It’s not just the module that is interchangeable. The whole watch itself – the straps, the buckles and the lugs – is interchangeable, as well.
Packed With A Better Software
In 2016, TAG Heuer sold 60,000 of its first ever smartwatch “Connected” at the price of $1,500 which was modeled after its classic design Carrera. Connected was dubbed as the first luxury Android wear which doubled the price of other competing Android wear brands.
Connected Modular 45 on the other hand has more edgy features compared to its predecessor. One of which is that it is powered by Intel’s Atom processor. Aside from its 4 gigabytes memory and a battery life of more than a day, it also comes with Wi-Fi, Google Assistant and a mobile payment ability as it runs on Android 2.0.
Intel and TAG is also working on an additional feature that offers tips and reminders based on the user’s activity.
Top Of The Line Hardware Features
As expected for a luxury brand, Connected Modular 45 is covered in 2.5mm sapphire crystal glass and encased in titanium. Its parts are all connected using gaskets rather than the usual glue which makes it functional even if submerged on 50 meters underwater.
This bold and luxury smartwatch from Swiss watchmaker comes in 56 different version and is available in titanium, rose gold, ceramic and with diamonds. The price definitely is justifiable considering the impressive design and features.
