Drones have been a gift to humanity. From taking epic selfies, to amazing shots of views, delivering packages, to being the best Pokemon GO cheating tool, the next best thing that it can do now is give the adventure thrills.
Drones are the next big thing for adventure lovers
Similar to probably water skiing and kite surfing, the person is being dragged through the water tanks to whatever mechanism is in front. In drone surfing, that mechanism is replaced with a drone. It’s like the kite-surfing of the future.
Basically, someone controlling the drone gets to take the rider along with them on a fun-filled excursion across the ocean. It even looks cool for the fact that it looks like the rider is riding along with a UFO. And by the way these Drones look, no one would blame the public in identifying one of them as being, well… unidentifiable.
But how did the idea come about in the first place? We owe our thanks to a small Seattle-based company called Freefly Systems. And in order to give summer a proper farewell ceremony, they thought why not end it on a high note? They took that last part pretty seriously and brought in some heavy-powered drones to drag riders across the surface of the ocean.
Freefly uses a specially equipped Alta 8 octocopter, that’s actually more of a mini helicopter than a drone, because it’s big and powerful. On its own, it can carry 12 kilograms of camera equipment. So it won’t be a problem dragging an average-sized human out and about.
Freefly were so excited about their little summer project, they decided to make a video of it to show the world exactly how awesome it feels to be riding one of their drones. Although they aren’t particularly fast machines just yet, we have a feeling that Freefly might just be working on some new R&D to develop this idea further.
In the meantime, for the masses out there, they’ve been kind enough to retail their Alta 8 super-drone for $17,495.
