Sony Xperia XA1 set to roll out in the UK earlier than expected

Sony revealed in February during the World Mobile Congress (WMC) in Barcelona the latest addition to its Xperia XA family – the Xperia XA1 and a slightly bigger brother Xperia XA1 Ultra. The former is scheduled to hit the shelves on April 26 for $299.99 while XA1 Ultra would go on its first sale around this summer at a slightly higher price.

But Europeans could possibly own one earlier than the rest. Clove, a UK-based retailer, confirmed that they were able to secure Xperia XA1 stocks earlier than the expected sale date.

Sony’s unexpected move to release the “super mid-ranger” first in the UK market is contrary to reports that the device is designed for the Asian Market.

As reported by Android Authority, after Sony Group’s major restructuring plan in 2015, Sony Mobile division was given a clear mandate to get the money rolling in by the end of 2016 or suffer the same fate with its sold computer division.

Expanding and targeting bigger market like the UK can be linked to its recent move for an earlier shipping date.

Sony’s Xperia XA1 will start shipping on April 10 which is two weeks earlier from the first scheduled date April 26. Customers can now pre-order the said device for £229 ($280) through Clove.

Xperia XA1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and an octa-core MediaTek processor with an internal memory of 32GB RAM and 32GB expandable memory.

The most talked about feature of Xperia XA1 is its 23MP rear camera which is way far better than its predecessor Xperia XA at only 13MP camera. For those who want to take great on-the-go photos, XA1 has a large ½.3 Exmor RS with SteadyShot support and an 8MP, 23mm wide-angle view to boot.

According to GSMArena, Xperia XA1 would have been almost at par with the famous XZ Premium which won the “Best New Smartphone” in MWC 2017, only that it cannot record 4K 2160p video.

Both Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra come in four different colors: Black, Gold, Pink and White and matching style cover stands in White and Black along with other range of complementary accessories from Sony.
