Sony’s new flagship camera ‘a99 II’ was launched in India on Thursday. Priced at Rs 249,990 ($3652), the full frame single lens translucent (SLT) camera is touted to offer the best performance in A-mount.
The a99 II boasts high-speed high-precision Hybrid Phase Detection AF, AF/AE tracking in 12fps continuous shooting and body-integrated 5-axis image stabilization. The AF system consists of two sensors to provide high-precision focusing and wider coverage.
It further features a 35 mm full-frame 42.4-megapixel CMOS sensor that delivers high-resolution image while providing high sensitivity, minimized noise, and wide dynamic range. And the 5-axis image stabilization minimizes the negative effect of camera shake blur and offers great clarity in stills and movies.
“The camera has been designed without an optical low-pass filter to allow the finest natural details and textures to be captured with depth and realism and the photographer can select compressed or uncompressed RAW files, as required,” the company said in a statement.
The a99 II camera will be available at select Sony Centres and other electronic and digital imaging stores across India.
With minor changes from the original a99 in terms of design, the a99 II is 8% smaller and has lightweight top cover, rear cover and internal frame that uses magnesium alloy for durability. As for the display, you have a 0.5″ 2.36M-dot OLED Tru-finder EVF with 0.78x magnification and a 3.0″ 1.23M-dot tilting LCD screen.
There is also an improved PC remote use. You can choose file types and save photo data in the camera or transfer data to PC for convenience in PC remote shooting. And for backup, you have two media slots for SD and SD/MS cards.
Love video shooting? You will be happy to know this is Sony’s first A-mount offering 4K videos. Shoot in full-frame 4K format of the sensor for high-resolution movies. The a99 II records 4K movies in the Super 35 mm format. The XAVC S format allows 4K recording at a maximum bitrate of 100Mbps as well as Full HD recording at 50Mbps.
The a99 II was first announced at the Photokina 2016. It has been more than three years since Sony updated the flagship DSLR.
