With holidays around the corner, you might need a bigger portable drive to save data. Seagate has just launched a mammoth 5TB drive which it claims is the world’s highest capacity portable hard drive.
The Backup Plus Portable 5TB drive is built on Seagate’s recently launched BarraCuda internal drive and features 2.5-inch 1TB platter technology announced last month.
The new storage solution can be used on both PC and Mac and can swiftly transfer files with USB 3.0 connectivity. It has a sleek 20.5mm form factor with aluminum cover. Available in black, silver, red and blue color versions, the Backup Plus 5TB will retail for $189 in the U.S.
Seagate has been on a launch spree, thanks to the ever-increasing data storage demands. Last month, it launched the largest 2.5-inch hard drive BarraCuda ST5000. The 5TB BarraCuda is only available for desktops and external storage. It is currently the highest capacity 2.5-inch HDD in the world.
Along with the 5TB BarraCuda, Seagate also launched the 2TB FireCuda which uses 8GB of flash to enable quick boot times. And for Xbox addicts, it came out with the new Game Drive for Xbox SSD. It had 512GB of capacity, allowing gamers store 15 of their favorite titles.
