Samsung has just revealed an exclusive makeover for its Gear S3 line-up that will urge buyers to take a second look, just because it looks so good. The rustic and more mechanical design of the smart watch was showcased at Baselworld 2017.
Baselworld is one of the biggest, if not the biggest watch events of the year and this year, Samsung have made their appearance and made their mark with their stunning variants. The models shown in this even by Samsung feature custom strap and dials, with new colour options on display. These watches closely resemble the kind of design that the Swiss are known for. All of the models showcased by Samsung were custom Gear S3s that were designed in collaboration with luxury watch designer Yvan Arpa.
Unfortunately, these watches will never go on sale and will only be used as eye candy for doting watch lovers. Arpa had also previously worked with Samsung in designing the original Gear S3 Frontier and S3 Classic so it makes sense that Samsung would use his expertise in adding some more flair to the design. In the redesigned models, form takes over function as the form-factor bids farewell to any form of digital or technologically advanced modules such as the display screen. Instead, viewers will be greeted with off-beat steam-punk-esque designs that are more regal and intricate than functional. The devices shown at Baselworld in Switzerland will remain just a concept for now as the company does not have any plans on releasing them out in the wild. According to Express, these concept models were just a way for Samsung to show people what is really possible when two masterclass industries come together to make something new.
Among some of the designs included were that of an analogue watch, a pocket-watch and a completely mechanical watch that each basked in their own glory at the event. The company did however have offerings that could be used in day-to-day life as well, by introducing new straps to the public for the Gear S3 as well as new “Value Packs” for the S2 and the S3. These packages will have the watches come pre-bundled with apps like Spotify and Nest among other improved features like the barometer as well as the S Health app.
