Samsung’s brings Gear S3 features on S2 with latest update

Samsung has released a new update for its Tizen-powered Gear S2 bringing top of the line features found on Gear S3. The update was launched on December 5 for major markets.

The update on Samsung’s smartwatch brings a plethora of features, including Gear S3’s watch faces, several fitness-focused features and third-party widgets for apps.

First and foremost, Gear S2 users have more personalization options by downloading watch faces from the Galaxy Apps store. In addition to that, you can seamlessly download Reminders app for managing to-do lists, and the Alti-Barometer for tracking outdoor activities.

The Messages app also has been enhanced. The new Handwriting Mode features superimposed writing and supports English, Korean and Chinese. Users may also punctuate their messages with sketches, or choose an appropriate visual from the Gear S2’s emoji catalog. And with the voice-input option you can swiftly send dictated texts and voice recordings.

Keeping something for the fitness addicts, Samsung has enhanced the S Health to automatically recognize more activities, including running, walking, cycling, elliptical and rowing-machine sessions.

The device is also capable of counting reps, and includes the Auto Pause feature and new Pace Coaching function. The latter is to help users maximize their cardio by allowing them to set an optimal pace for running or jogging.

The latest update adds support for third-party widgets from popular apps like Uber, Yelp and USA Today. Lastly, Gear S2 users get access to Galaxy Apps store’s interactive games, including Stack and Monster Vampire.

The Gear S2 was released back in October 2015. The wearable currently sells on Amazon for a price of $299. Invest another $50 and you could get Samsung’s most recent Tizen-based Gear S3.
