Samsung’s tablet line-up has not ever been stellar in terms of performance, and it does not seem like the company is aiming at keeping up the pace as much as it has with its smartphones. While we have not been seeing any flagship grade tablets of late, the company has silently released a new entry-level Galaxy Tab A2 S that is aimed at children.
A key feature that makes this tablet a children’s device is its dedicated Kids Mode app along with a few other features that will cater to the younger demographic. The tablet was already the subject of numerous leaks in the couple weeks leading up to its eventual launch but the rumors were still unable to ascertain what the name of the model would go by. The tablet will feature an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1200×800 pixels, and will be powered by Snapdragon 425 system-on-chip that will consist of four 64-bit cores clocked at 1.4GHz. The processor will be coupled with 2GB of RAM, with 16GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
The Wi-Fi only option will cost $270 and the LTE variant will cost about $320. The tablet will come in two colour options – Gold and Black, to make it look premium. The most attractive aspect of the device is its battery power, which is a 5,000mAh unit and can also be charged through a USB Type-C port, that is also used for connectivity. The optics of the device will consist of an 8MP camera on the back with a 5MP camera up front. Quite surprisingly, the device may not come packed with Bixby, but that will be confirmed when the tablet officially starts selling in Europe when it releases in the coming days.
