Samsung’s own in-house operating system Tizen has been powering a number of devices from smartphones to televisions. The latest to be built on the lightweight software is Samsung’s P-Series standalone SMART signage. On Monday, the South Korean company announced the global launch of its premium displays.
It is the first time Tizen-powered signages are being introduced by the tech giant. The P-Series displays, including the PHF (700nit brightness) and PMF (500nit brightness), will also be the first to feature the fourth generation Samsung SMART Signage Platform (SSSP 4.0).
Samsung said the new P-Series represented a landmark moment with the industry-leading visual displays equipped with a feature rich Tizen platform. “By equipping our displays with faster and more versatile content management tools, our customers will be better prepared to solve their most prominent customer engagement challenges,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
The displays sporting a slim body and narrow bezel makes it among the thinnest in the market. The narrow bezel ensures viewers remain focused on content than the display itself.
The display operations does not require external PCs or devices to function. With the new MagicInfo Server 4.0, users can manage their entire signage portfolio through a central remote server in real time. Users can also build and launch web-based management applications through free tools such as Web Simulator and Tizen Emulator programs.
Samsung said its P-Series displays also contain an integrated centralized infrared receiver (IR) to drive more convenient operation. The centralized infrared receive is compatible with remote control devices and drives faster and easier navigation than most standard displays.
Towards the graphics, the standalone displays are the first to render content using the SSSP 4.0’s reinforced graphics engine. This results in better animation performance, enhanced response times and seamless playback.
Samsung said its PHF and PMF models are IP5X certified and can perform at optimal quality in any environment, be it busy bus terminals or subway stations.
