Samsung Gear S3 goes on sale, US to see launch on Nov 18

This holiday season the smartwatch battle gets more fiercer. Samsung has just made its Gear S3 official. The Android wearable is now available in South Korea, other countries will see launch in just a week’s time.

The Samsung Gear S3 is an Android-powered smartwatch available in two designs – the rugged Gear S3 frontier and the trendy Gear S3 classic. Announced at the IFA in Berlin, the S3 smartwatches go on sale in South Korea from today. And on November 18, it will go on sale in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Dubai, France, Germany, and Singapore.

“The immensely intelligent Gear S3 is a testament to our focus on evolving and leading the wearables category and ultimately delivering a smartwatch unlike any other on the market,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

The Gear S3 is water and dust resistant, and is equipped with a built-in GPS and several fitness apps to track daily activities and weather conditions.

Sporting a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display covered with Gorilla Glass SR+, the smartwatch is powered by a 1-gigahertz dual-core processor, 768MB RAM and 4GB internal memory. And with a 380mAh battery, the smartwatch can last up to four days on a single charge.

As for connectivity, while S3 Classic supports Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC, MST, GPS/Glonass, S3 Frontier adds 3G/LTE to the others. With wireless network connectivity, you can receive texts, emails and alerts even when you are not near your phone.

The pricing in the U.S. will start at $350. Apple Watch Series 2 is pretty close in terms of pricing. It retails for $369 and has built-in GPS, a fast dual-core processor and is water resistant to 50 metres. There are a total of six Apple Watch Series 2 models – aluminium, steel, gold, ceramic, Hermès and Nike.
