Samsung was earlier tipped to launch a tablet in place of the hotly-anticipated Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). But now there is a real glimmer of hope as there is expectation that Samsung will tease the premium device in Spain.
Reports coming from Korea suggest of a short clip that Samsung will play to encapsulate the highlights and show off the design. The Korea Herald reports that Samsung won’t be launching the phone but will play a 1-minute clip.
Samsung has seemingly confirmed to press that it will not release the S8. However, it sent media invites earlier this week on a press conference it is holding on February 26. The invite also featured a mysterious device that is speculated to be the Galaxy Tab S3.
Though there was much hype of Samsung bringing the S8 on the sidelines of MWC, it was delayed over safety concerns. The South Korean company is being cautious this time around to prevent another Note 7 fiasco that costed $5.3 billion in lost profit. Investigations on the exploding Note 7 devices has blamed two separate battery issues for the fires.
Galaxy S8 release & specs
According to reports, Samsung might reveal the Galaxy S8 on March 29. It is expected to go on sale by end of April. This again must be taken with a pinch of salt as they are yet to be made official.
Several images of the device leaked multiple times throwing light on the design and curved edges. The S8 is rumored to come in two sizes – 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch. Both to feature a dual-edge curved display, the device might skip the Home Button and will have a fingerprint scanner on the back.
The processor should be Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM. As for storage, the Galaxy S8 could be offered in 128GB and 256GB variants. In terms of pictures, there will be a dual camera setup on the rear – rumored to be 16MP and 8MP sensors. There will also be a front snapper fo selfies.
To run Android Nougat 7.1.1, the S8 will be backed by a 3,250 mAh battery, while on the S8 Plus, it should be a larger 3,750 mAh battery. The premium device is also expected to be integrated with its own digital assistant called Bixby.
