Samsung Galaxy Book 2-in-1 will keep the Surface Pro 4 hot on its heels

Shown earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Galaxy Book devices that were showcased by Samsung will now be available soon, with pre-orders and purchases currently taking place. Without a doubt, the Surface Pro will have to look over its shoulder with a new kind of portable Windows slab in town.

The devices will come in two sizes – a 10.6-inch and a 12-inch size. The smaller of the two is a Wi-Fi only model. This will cost about $630 for 4GB + 64GB configurations. Of course, there will be expansion options for MicroSD cards too. There is also 128GB variant of the model available as well. Being modestly spec’d the processor on the 10-inch model will be an Intel m3 chipset. At that cost, Samsung could have added an i3 chipset instead, which would give the system a much-needed turbo boost in clock-speed and multi-threading.

For those who want a little “oomph” factor in their device, the 12-inch model will support LTE and Wi-Fi as well. For $1,130, buyers can get the Wi-Fi-only version and the LTE-enabled version with a SIM-card slot can be availed for $1,300. The 12-incher is more powerful than its smaller sibling, coming with an i5 7200 U processor, known to have a base clock-speed of 2.5GHz which can be boosted to 3.1GHz. It will also feature up to 8GB or RAM and come with a 256GB SSD. This should give the device some serious power for providing a smooth experience.

All versions will reportedly consist of a bundle which are available for buyers wherein an S-Pen would also be available, along with a keyboard. The smaller of the books comes with a Full-HD screen that is a TFT monitor. The 10-inch model only comes with a single USB Type-C port however. Considering the larger of the two books, two USB Type-C ports are available and display-wise, comes with a capable 2K display, which as an AMOLED unit.

The two Books will be available in Silver colour trims and buyers looking to make a purchase can head to the Samsung official website or to select Best Buy stores for pre-orders. The books will be available on May 21. Compared to the Surface Pro 4, the Samsung Books offer almost the same specs, so it will be harder to consider one over the other right now. Where Samsung offer both a stylus and keyboard with its units, Microsoft is selective on that front. The aluminium design looks slim too.
