Samsung to begin sale of new Gear VR alongside Galaxy Note 7

Come this Thursday, Samsung will not only release the much-awaited Galaxy Note 7, but also its new virtual reality headset, Gear VR. The Gear VR offers larger view than before and has an extensive library of VR content.

Samsung Gear VR will be available for purchase starting August 19

The device, which currently is used by over 1.2 million users each month, is a third generation product and brings USB-C connector in addition to improved controller.

In some markets, Gear VR is bundled with Galaxy Note 7. For owners of Samsung devices purchased in 2015 and 2016, the good news is that the new virtual reality headset is fully compatible and supported. Samsung’s S6, S6 Edge, S7 and their near variants enjoy a seamless experience.

The virtual reality market has grown expontentially in 2016 with brands such as Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive fighting for a slice of the action. While Google’s Cardboard works with a variety of devices, including iPhone, Samsung’s Gear VR only works with the company’s recent devices.

While critics are raving about the resemblance of Gear VR with the previous release, Samsung is emphatic that the product has a fresh design with new added features. The new Gear VR does not have the original’s white interior and exterior. In addition to that, the field of view has also increased to 101 degrees, up from 96 degrees.

The headset supports USB-C by default. It can be easily swapped with a micro-USB adapter.

To those looking forward for their first Samsung Note 7, the Gear VR might be an excellent accessory to consider. With Note 7’s 5.7-inch AMOLED screen, 3,500mAh battery and 4GB of RAM, any virtual reality experience will be beyond exhilarating.

The Samsung Gear VR is priced at $99. It is  available for purchase starting Friday, August 19.
