Rumors and speculations continue on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8. The latest divulges that the device will sport a bezel-less display, with the home button virtually absent.
A Bloomberg report notes that Samsung will create an all-screen front for the Galaxy S8 with the bezel-less display providing more viewing real estate. The home button is also said to be buried in the glass in the lower section.
“The new phones will only come with wraparound displays using organic light-emitting diode technology,” the report said.
Gathering vital insights from unnamed sources with direct knowledge of the matter, Bloomberg says the new S8 will be housed in devices of a similar size, similar to the 5.1-inch S7 and 5.5-inch S7 Edge.
Some of the phones might use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset while others will feature Samsung’s own Exynos processor.
Samsung also plans to introduce an upgraded digital assistant that will use voice commands to send text messages and make phone calls.
Bloomberg report informs Samsung is targeting a March release of the S8, but it is probable that it will be delayed until April. The Korean consumer electronics company is said to be adopting “tougher testing procedures”, not giving any room for another Note 7 fiasco.
The Galaxy S8 was officially announced in November. There have been rumors on the features and specifications since then.
To compete with Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the S8 could ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack and go with a USB Type-C port. Reports also suggest that Samsung will be using an RGB Super AMOLED panel for the S8 instead of the Diamond PenTile.
Let us hope the upcoming flagship will not disappoint like the Note 7 that saw a global recall after a number of replacement units caught fire.
